Pirin Mountain Resort

Tourism

Bulgaria boasts mountains, a large coastline, fields of roses, plentiful hot mineral springs and picturesque villages.  The country is already famous for its Black Sea resorts in the summer and its ski resorts in the winter.

Ski & Mountain Tourism

There are 16 mountain ranges in Bulgaria which cover about one third of the country’s territory. The unique caves, rock phenomena, waterfalls and ski slopes attract a great number of tourists. The mountain climate in Bulgaria is very healthy – moderately cool in summer and moderately cold in winter, with a lot of sunshine and prolonged snow cover. That is why Bulgaria's mountains offer many opportunities for active tourism during all seasons - walking, hiking, golf, water sports, caving, rock climbing or camping in the summer and skiing and snowboarding in the winter.

In 2006 a total of 5 158 117 foreign tourists visited the country, which is a 6.64% increase compared to 2005. As well as winter and costal holiday makers they experienced:

- cultural tourism
- rural tourism
- ecotourism
- photo tourism
- walking tourism
- riding tourism
- mountain biking tourism
